Okay, I subscribe to one of these online DVD rental services.
Other than Jake movies I have recently enjoyed seeing Peter Saarsgaard in Kinsey and Shattered Glass. Also rented Maggie G's Secretary.
Anyone got any recommendations that I can add to my wait list?

Hello, have you seen "The Red Violin"or "Wonder boys"? I can recommend Ang Lee movies, they are great...I like the one about Civil War: "Ride with the devil"...I have watched this movie and I started to be Tobey Maguire fan and Ang Lee fan also. Later I have seen Brokeback Mountain, but the first was "Ride with the devil"

Thanks for the recommendation...I've added Ride With The Devil to my wait list....actually I have added the other two as well.
I have a couple of Ang Lee films on my list already and I saw The Ice Storm a couple of weeks ago.

If you're a Peter Sarsgaard fan, you might want to try The Dying Gaul. I just rented it last week. I'm a little on the fence about the movie. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. Peter was awesome, as usual, and looking very hot, imho. It has Campbell Scott in it, too.

I've searched for that one but screenselect don't appear to have it. I got The Dying Gaul through Netflix. It just came out on dvd a few weeks ago in the U.S. Perhaps if you're not in the U.S. it's not available yet?

Jla, I loved both Good Night and Good Luck and Capote! I think that the first had a very good plot, and also directing..And Hoffman was excellent as Capote..I also liked Walk The Line, but I think its bad luck was that it came following Ray..and the stories of the characters were similar. I say bad luck because it diminuated the greatness of Joaquin Phoenix's performance. He is an actor with great deepness in his acting. I have so many movies I'd recommend, but now I'll stop at a French one, it's called Jeux D'Enfants or Love me if you dare, the English title. It's another version of how two people chose to love one another (to quote the Heath guy.. )

I was saying the same thing to my friend when we watched Walk the Line!! Timing huh? A bio-pic about a drug addicted, talented & tortured musician who is saved by the love and support of a good woman! However vague, I am simultaneously describing both films!! I loved Ray but I thought the acting in WTL was superior! I mean Joaquin!! I am officially a fan now!! Can you imagine how emotionally draining that performance had to be for him given the situation with his brother River! It was devastating to watch Joaquin's portrayal so I know it was so overwhelming to convey such vulnerabilty through his process!

Have you ever seen Latter Days? Its about this gay LA party boy who falls in love with this adorably naive Mormon.
It's absolutely phenomenal. I was in tears in the end. Of course, I've seen it a further 8 times since then, so the tears have been drying up a bit...

Yeah, I watched it some months ago, but only because Joseph Gordon-Levitt appeared in this film and I fancied him since I saw him in "Manic", one of my favourite films, because it's about troubled teens, about violence, and Zooey Deschanel is delicious -one of my girl crushes-.

It was devastating to watch Joaquin's portrayal so I know it was so overwhelming to be that convey such vulnerabilty through his process! I didn't know about the background with his brother! I must confess..I don't always look for more info about the movies I like.Sometimes I am afraid it will ruin the impact they had on me, or the beauty of the unknown. That's why I didn't look for info about the movie, about Joaquin's performance. i just considered it stunning. I think his eyes are the ones who are acting the most! I mean, with every role, he has a specific look that defines his entire character. I would have wanted him to win at the Oscars,honestly..because he is so dedicated to his characters and you can see how he gets tourmented by the role..I don't know..And I think this could have been it for him. It was a major fight in my soul..do I want Joaquin to win..or Heath..I loved them both. And..when two fight, the third usually wins..hello,George.. So what had happened with his brother?

So what had happened with his brother? Long story short: he was a talented young actor who died of heroin and cocaine overdose at the age of 23. Joaquin was there when this happened outisde an LA club.
