Maybe one of the reasons "El manuscrito encontrado en Zaragoza" was favourited by Luis Buñuel is that Zaragoza was next to his origin birthplace, my bf was born in capital Zaragoza, while Luis Buñuel was born in Calanda (Teruel). Teruel is one of the three provinces of Aragon, where Francisco de Goya came from, too. Many times I've been to Calanda/Montalbán/Teruel route, since part of my father family comes from Teruel. Calanda is well know for its delicious peaches and Bajo Aragón virgin olive oil.
I like Buñuel a lot, and I think Woody Allen is a professed devoted of his surrealist cinema. My favourite films of Buñuel: "El angel exterminador", "Belle de Jour", "Viridiana" and "El discreto encanto de la burguesía" and of course his iconoclast short film "Un perro andaluz". One remarkable disciple of Buñuel is Carlos Saura, who was born in Huesca (Aragon) with great films like "Cría Cuervos", "Bodas de Sangre", "El sur", etc...

Luis Buñuel is my favourite too!...I love all his movies! I especially love movies made by Carlos Saura...I love little Ana Torrent! Do you remember this song "Porque te vas" by "Jeanette"?

That melancholic voice like a whisper by Jeanette is unforgettable, it sticked to my mind after watching the film when I was a kid, and then I rewatched "Cría Cuervos" a few times in a Spanish program "Qué grande es el cine" hosted by José Luis Garci, a famous Spanish director who won an Oscar in 1983 with "Volver a empezar", jngirl, and the poison attempting to the aunt is magistral, one of the great moments of cinema, imo. Here there is a link about some dialogues and stills, the problem is in Spanish (I dunno if you could translate in your browser) www.ac-nantes.fr:8080/peda/disc/lv/espagnol/cine/cria.htm (try to paste it if you can) Ana Torrent was a little child when performed in "El espíritu de la colmena" of Victor Erice, and then she was Angela in the renowned "Tesis" by Alejandro Amenábar, very popular who made "Abre los ojos" (then remade as "Vanilla Sky" in HW) and "Mar adentro", awarded with an Oscar to best foregin film in 2005. He filmed "The Others" in 2001, although I liked the "The turn of the screw" book more, the movie dragged a bit and withouth the repression symbolism of Henry James.

I have made a little research about Ana Torrent a few years ago so I have read about her later films but I haven't seen them...I have read something about "Thesis". But I prefer old good Saura's classics ...which were inspired by Buñuel. I am looking for some picture of Ana but it's so difficult to find I have found finally...and I admitt that I would love to see "El espíritu de la colmena"...it must be great! well, I must definitely go now...go out to meet some "cuervos"

I've seen a movie last night that might have changed something in me forever. At least,I hope it did. I can't understand why I haven't heard of it before,it is from 2004 and it is called Diarios de Motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries). It made after Che Guevara's journals, telling the story of his trip with his best friend in the South America. As soon as they get on the road, all you can see is them passing through beautiful pictures..everything is so simple and intense in the same time, that you're practically there, with them. The movie has a genius evolution, regarding the relationship between the two, but mostly, regarding the changes that a journey can bring to a human spirit. I don't know how to best describe this movie, but I'll only say this: if you're an idealist, watch this movie. If you're not, watch this movie. I know it might sound stupid, but I think everyone should see it and admire the greatness of a human spirit..and its freedom.. I have to add that the soundtrack is made by Gustavo Santaolalla..who does his job just as we are used to..hearing that music will bring you a little more delight and strength. www.motorcyclediariesmovie.com/sp/home.htmlwww.imdb.com/title/tt0318462/
