It really is good.
Speaking of Joseph Gordon Levitt, did you see that video he posted to youtube? Some paps were annoying him so he got his video camera out and started recording them!

Wow! Quite a list there and the ones I've seen are indeed very very good! You may also like Andrei Tarkovski's movies. They are pure poetry. He uses mostly symols, which is beautiful. Every object in his movies has a meaning for being put there. They are black & white, they're not part of the entertaining movies..

Speaking of which, I just watched The New World. For fans of European cinema I recommend it heartily, but anyone who loves Hollywood should probably avoid this one... Anyways, I thought it was remarkably beautiful visually, loved the pacing of the story and the idea itself was fascinating (to put it in a nutshell). The silence of it somewhat reminded me of movies like BBM. Ah, I'm not the only movie freak here? Well, I just have to comment on some stuff on you list amerika: I LOVE this movie, it's brilliant. Depp is a God and Benicio isn't that bad either. Funny, witty movie. Well, look at my avatar....'nuff said? Not Kubrick's best directing-wise but I do adore this movie so much. Everyone should see it. Oh, I love this one too. The story is brilliant, characters are interesting and warm. One of my favourite hobbies is to drink a bottle of Casa Silva and watch Amelie. The best feel-good movie in decades, easily. And I should also recommend other movies by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, he's amazing. I don't get people who don't get this movie! Kaufman always provides such unique scripts and in this case his script was turned into pure magic on screen. Ok, ^^were pretty basic so I'm sure most people have seen them but if not, then do watch them We do kind of disagree on some points (not trying to be insulting here, just trying to create conversation I dislike this movie and it has nothing to do with BBM. It's such a feel-good movie about racism. A friend of mine once used the term "moral masturbation" about Crash and I think he was right on. It doesn't demand anything from its viewer, it just provides them with a reason to feel good about themselves. Ok, sometimes I'm such a nazi with movies but the directing style of this one drove me CRAZY. I couldn't concentrate on anything but hoping to kick the director's ass, her style so didn't do it for me. Stopped watching this one around the time when someone said something like "no American has ever left a fellow American behind". Not as bad as Pearl Harbour though. All in all I think you made a very good list of recent quality movies. And again, how great that there are other movie freaks on this board as well...most of my time is spent watching movies, especially now that I'm working in a video renting store ;D

No insult taken love! You really didn't like Crash? I guess I should kinda give reason as to why I listed it. I felt that the stereotypes of racism were delivered much more sincerely and intelligently than those in the past but maybe the movie failed in the fact that it played the racism card too much, rather than focus on the cause and effect, chance and coincidence, and tragedy side of things (which I felt were the beauty of the film). Haha, you know the thing about Thirteen was.. I really didn't notice the directing too much because I wanted to thrash the girl in it. I think I remember being annoyed at the shallowness of the film but then I thought to myself, actually it's really done well because it shows you how manipulative 13 yr olds can be! I listed BHD purely for the cinematography, it was shot beautifully and directed well. I hate hate hate Pearl Harbour- with a vengeance. oh and Eternal Sunshine is in my top 5 movies

Have you watched a small telefilm named "Cheaters". Jena Malone is the femenine star, and the lead is a great Jeff Daniels. Based on a true story.

If you're a Peter Sarsgaard fan, you might want to try The Dying Gaul. I just rented it last week. I'm a little on the fence about the movie. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. Peter was awesome, as usual, and looking very hot, imho. It has Campbell Scott in it, too. Yah I liked what they tried to do with that movie but far too much was not answered and there were some issues but yes Peter was fantastic per usual, Campbell Scott was chiling and awesome, so was the Six Feet Under lady. She comes off as eccentric. Like the actress is eccentric not even the character. Hard to explain. Also, I rewound the sex scene and the Special Features sex scens several times when I rented it. What can I say, I'm a conosoir of the smex. Especially when and Gyllenhaal or Sarsgaard is involved.

Very interesting movie, I really thought they were all good casted. It's not pretentious, but it is very good just for what it is. I didn't know Jena Malone back then, I think she gives her characters personality. Too bad she kind of left the business, or so I've heard. This movie gave me some ideas back then..but nah..too risky

The idea behind Crash was nice enough and it has great potential. I just felt that instead of making people think about the consequences of racism they - maybe because the characters were quite two-sided - just managed to make the viewer go "well I'm glad I'm not a racist like those awful people"? I don't know, I just didn't get an air of sincerety out of this one. It's like the movie makers thought of "let's show how liberal we are and how wrong everybody else is" when making the movie and I think that's wrong. I've always seen the purpose of art as provoking thought, not forcing down opinions (which seems to be all too common nowadays). Oh and directing/scripting/acting-wise this was very mediocre. This I agree with, it's just the directing and certain sense of preaching that got to me. It's by no means the worst movie I've ever seen, but the directing might be the worst I've ever seen so that kind of ruins a perfectly good movie That's true. Scott does seem to make these larger-than-life movies work better than many others. And nobody can ever bash PH too much. I swear, if I ever meet a person who actually likes it...it ain't gonna be pretty.

I hope she keeps on, she's one of the few young actresses who is not the typical stunning blonde false "next door girl".

Oh and directing/scripting/acting-wise this was very mediocre. I actually liked very much a few scenes in Crash, I think the climax of the movie was pointed out very well. Especially regarding the relationship evolution between characters. For me, the irony is the one that this movie is about. Racism and politics are somehow small parts of this entire main characteristic of life. Or like Forrest Gump's mom puts it.."Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." Oh, I'm glad to hear that she's into some new projects. That's what I like about her, too. Not being part of the croud..

I wished they would have kept those in. What can I say, I'm a sucker for watching two men kiss.
