This sentence from Pop's response stuck out for me:
"Each of us deserves our own Q&A. "
Well, by Jove. Let's do it!
In true Jake Watch comedy style I think we'll each take one of the very questions we asked him and reply to it with our own thoughts. I think he'll see the funny side, right?
Par example: Anneka (Wales UK): How long have you been accumulating your collection? Is there more to come? I could reply to this by talking about my extenisve collection of animal poetry - including The Homicidal Gift from Toys'R'Us, The Mourning Elephant and Christmas Killed The Cat.

Gayle S. Stever, Ph.D. (Arizona State University) and James (LosAngeles): We have noted the invasion of the paparazzi into yourprivate family life in an escalating fashion of late. To what extent does living somewhat in the public eye affect you?
Hmmm....well does AJ at work count, the man who is never known not to have a camera somewhere on his person at all times? Bloody irritating I call it; I have threatened him with bodily harm next time his camera points anywhere in my direction, but just like the dreaded paps he pays not one bit of attention....and now he has traded in his trusty disposables for a sexy digital piece he is becoming more of a nuisance by taking video clips too....then he emails them all around the building!

"What would you define as the American literary canon?" As the "modern" American literary canon, I'd say Arthur Miller, William Burroughs, Hunter S. Thompson, Charles Bukowski, John Fante, Slylvia Plath, Raymond Carver, James Ellroy, Chuck Palahniuk, Elizabeth Wurtzel, Breston Ellis, ...and Stephen Gyllenhaal.

Are the poems in your collection mostly spoken by aversion of yourself or are they sometimes written through different personae?
Well there's my glamourous lawyer alter ego Joyce Davenport who is incredibly talented, gorgeous, socially aware and would make a perfect daughter in law- I just know Naomi, Maggie and her would get on like a house on fire.
Then there is my other personality Dr Jocelyn Davenfreud. Jocelyn is an amazing offbeat psychoanalyst who trained under (quite literally) the famous 'sixties Glaswegian psychoananlytic guru- RD Laing- she's a bit gone from all the acid and tends to ramble off into hyperspace given a chance -but really very sweet.
Then there's the really crazy one who takes over once a month and wants to throw things and burst into tears all the time. Then there is Serenity the meditator who is so chilled out she would fall over backwards if she sat on a bench.
Well that's a few of my inner family- gets quite crowded in here sometimes- but who wants to be on their own?

Hee, Joyce! Love it!
Alaina (NY): You are best known for directing feature films. What was the motivation behind publishing a collection of poetry?
It's true, I do have a large body of cinematic work behind me. I'm perhaps best known for my famous unfinished group project, Jake Watch: The Movie. I hope someday to finish it...maybe a day in December. In the meantime, I just find it so flattering that people think enough of my blogging skills to refer to it as poetry. As for publication? It's purely a money thing. I don't so much have any right now.

LOL, muffin! ;D Is that true? That's exactly the kind of response I was after, thanks! 100% true, guv. He has albums at work of pics (and appropriate captions) for the last 3 Christmas parties.....lost count of the number of outfits that I have sworn never to wear again after seeing AJs deeply, deeply unflattering pictures of me. Last time he papped me was at one of our semi regular sport events...very thoughtful of him to catch everyone being crap and sweaty....still I managed to *accidently* hit him with the ball during one of my very fine serves...

What are your greatest obstacles when writing?
Funny that you've asked this, I do have several obstacles that seem to trouble me very much when I intend to write. Writing non-literary pieces in Romanian, my native language, brings no problems whatsoever. The words come without any bounderies and it shows. With the literary work..that's when the show begins..I have problems with the title, with deciding whether to have a rhyme or not, with the appropiate words, with what linguistic registers to use, how to mix them in an artistical manner, I have problems sensing the musicality of words, I try to avoid the Romantic specific sound in poetry and I get to some weird word juxtaposition. I have problems with the paper I write on and with the pen I'm writing with. I cannot concentrate enough on the work and I end up throwing it to trash. Writing anything in English has only one default: words come to me in Romanian. End of paragraph.. yeah..

^^ Funny you should say that adriana. To me words actually often come easier in English than Swedish. I guess I've gotten so used to writing in English thanks to online friends, it's almost weird to me to express myself in Swedish sometimes! I often find myself searching for the right word in Swedish when I'm talking to my Swedish friends. It's weird, and almost embarrassing sometimes!

Yes,I know,cina..that happens to me only for about five minutes after spending some time writing in English..but the rest of the time it's Romanian all the way! maybe it happens like this because I'm actually studying the language and using it very much..write essays, read a lot..the funny part is that when I'm looking for synonyms in Romanian I find all the words in English and when I want an English word I get all the synonyms in Romanian.. lol..hope it will improve

Being utterly devoid of any talent is my greatest obstacle.....
